Butterfly Garden A Great Spangles Fritillary on a yellow coneflower (Echinacea paradoxa) This garden is located around Eckles Hall with the main area in the protected space formed by Eckles Hall and the Agricultural Engineering building. This garden contains many nectar-producing shrubs and perennials to which larval and adult butterflies are attracted. An extensive area along the west side of Agricultural Engineering is planted with Missouri native wildflowers and shrubs which attract and demonstrate the importance of the native insects to the successful reproduction of seeds. Swallowtail Butterfly on Butterfly Bush (Buddleia) Monarch Butterfly on Ironweed (Vernonia) In 2016, two beehives were placed in the Butterfly Garden. The hives are maintained by volunteers from Sustain Mizzou, an environmental student run non-profit group.
