Meet Bill Quade: Director of Horticulture at The Biltmore Estate

Bill Quade is the Director of Horticulture with the Biltmore Company in Asheville NC.  Prior to this, Bill served in various positions within the Horticulture Department, which he began in 1998.
 

Bill’s strong leadership ability, positive personality, and understanding of Biltmore’s core values were instrumental in the opening of The Inn on Biltmore Estate, Antler Hill Village, The Village Hotel on Biltmore Estate, and most recently Amherst at Deerpark.  Bill enjoys the challenge of maintaining the estates historical design intent while implementing the needs of the 21st century.
 

In addition to his horticultural work, Bill has served on numerous internal committees, all focusing on how to keep The Biltmore Company the employer of choice in Asheville and the surrounding area.  He also leads a new supervisor’s class for the Human Resources Department titled ‘Change Management’.
 

Bill obtained his Associates of Applied Science Degree in Horticulture from Western Piedmont Community College in Morganton NC and his Bachelors of Science in Business Administration and Law from Western Carolina University.  He has also obtained the following North Carolina Certificates – Certified Plantsman, Certified Pesticide Applicator, and Certified Turfgrass Professional.  He obtained his Certified Landscape Technician through The National Association of Landscape Professionals.
 

Beyond his professional responsibilities, Bill is an active member of the Professional Grounds Management Society, Buncombe County Cooperative Extension Board of Advisors, and the children’s ministry at his church.  He has been married to his wife Rhonda for 23 years and spends most of his free time keeping up with his 17-year-old son and his 14-year-old daughter.
 

Bill has presented to the following organization on various topics related to Biltmore:  Dallas Women’s Club, Lauritzen Gardens (Omaha Botanical Garden), Chesapeake 2018 Horticulture Symposium, Ball Horticulture, The Oklahoma Horticultural Society, Michigan Green Industry Trade Show, Tri-Cities Garden Club (Davenport Iowa), Green Thumb Garden Club of Cookeville TN, Sewickley Garden Club, Zone Nine of the Garden Club of America, and many Western North Carolina Garden Clubs.
