European Horsechestnut – Aesculus hippocastanum ‘Baumannii’
European Horsechestnut, a native of the Balkan Peninsula, is a popular tree grown throughout the
Eastern United States. It can grow from 80 to 100 feet tall which makes it most suitable for large
landscape spaces. The cultivar, Baumannii, has double, white-flowering panicles that range
from 5 inches to 12 inches in length and does not produce the characteristic buckeye fruit of the
species (see # Memorial Union Loop).
