This deciduous conifer is a wonderful ornamental for large areas. It is native to the wetlands of

southeast Missouri where it may develop ‘knees’, woody knobs of root rising above water level.

The wood is valued for its resistance to decay and is used for shingles, railroad ties and bridge

beams.
