Join Friends of Mizzou Botanic Garden (MUBG) on August 26 for a reception to celebrate 20 years of the MU campus’ designation as a botanic garden.

A screening of portions of award-winning filmmaker Catherine Zimmerman’s “Hometown Habitat, Stories of Bringing Nature Home” and panel discussion will follow the presentation. Panelists: Carol Davit, Missouri Prairie Foundation executive director; Bill Ruppert, National Nursery Products principal/manager and former Friends of MUBG chair; Enos Innis, director of undergraduate studies for the MU College of Engineering’s Civil and Environmental Engineering; and Mike Heimos, City of Columbia stormwater and conservation educator.

“Hometown Habitat”, narrated by well-known author, educator and entomologist Doug Tallamy, is an examination of the critical role native plants play in our ecosystems. The film shares stories of public and private projects that integrated nature into communities — efforts inspired by a commitment to making changes in the landscape that bring about healthier environments. Selected portions of the film will be screened.
